The Core of Lido di Jesolo

Piazza Giuseppe Mazzini stands as the pulsating heart of Lido di Jesolo's social scene and the most famous square along its promenade. Named for the 19th-century Italian patriot Giuseppe Mazzini, the square originated in the 1950s during the town's transformation into a major resort destination. It quickly came to symbolize the dynamic character and hospitality of this Adriatic hotspot.

Modern Architecture and Design

A significant urban redevelopment project, envisioned by Spanish architect Carlos Ferrater, gave the square its contemporary aesthetic. This redesign introduced a distinctive vast, dark paved surface and interactive water fountains that provide entertainment, especially for children. A key landmark defining the skyline is the Torre Aquileia, an iconic 22-floor skyscraper completed in 2009. Known affectionately by locals as 'matitone' (pencil) for its shape, the tower contains 84 residential flats. The redevelopment also created the 2,000-square-meter 'Nuova Piazza Aquileia', designed to mediate between the tower and Piazza Mazzini.

A Hub for Entertainment and Nightlife

Today, Piazza Mazzini serves as a central hub for tourists and locals alike. It is a bustling commercial center surrounded by a wide array of shops, Italian and international restaurants, lively bars, and gelaterias. The square is renowned as the epicenter of Jesolo's nightlife, with clubs and bars staying open late into the night, particularly during the high season. Throughout the year, the piazza hosts numerous events, including Milonga dance nights, Cuban salsa performances, live music, and local festivals like the Grape Festival, often accompanied by market stalls. A carousel is also frequently in operation near the Hotel Principe Palace.

Unique Features and Green Spaces

The square's interactive fountains feature a 'Mistscaping effect' created by nozzles beneath the pavement. This system generates a fine mist, producing a palpable cooling effect on warm evenings. A recent initiative, the 'Mazzini Green' project, further enhanced the urban decor. This project transformed a large wooden seating area into a lawn with floral decorations, new trees, and color-changing LED lights, adding artificial green islands and synthetic grass elements to make the space more inviting.

Europe's Longest Pedestrian Area

Adjacent to the square, the main street of Via Bafile becomes part of Europe's longest pedestrian area every evening. From 8 PM to 6 AM, the street is closed to vehicular traffic, creating an extensive 15-kilometer promenade for leisurely evening strolls.
