The Ruota Panoramica di Jesolo, also known as The Wheel of Venice, is a towering observation wheel that has become an icon of the modern Jesolo skyline. Located in Piazza Brescia, this attraction offers breathtaking, bird's-eye views of the coastline. Surprisingly, this contemporary structure shares its design with a historic Parisian marvel, the Roue de Paris from the 1900 Exposition Universelle.

A Modern Landmark with Historic Roots

While it stands as a symbol of modern Jesolo, the Ruota Panoramica has a direct lineage to a significant piece of engineering history. The project utilized the same design as the famous Roue de Paris, a Ferris wheel installed in the Place de la Concorde in Paris for the 1900 World's Fair. This connection links the vibrant beach resort's attraction to a globally recognized historic structure.

The Ride Experience

Standing approximately 55 to 60 meters tall, the Ruota Panoramica di Jesolo provides expansive panoramic views. During the 8 to 10-minute ride, passengers can see the Adriatic Sea, the coastline, the city of Jesolo, and even the distant skyline of Venice. The wheel features 42 enclosed and air-conditioned cabins, each capable of carrying up to eight people, for a total capacity of 252 passengers.

An Ambitious Vision for Jesolo

The observation wheel was the result of an ambitious public-private partnership announced in November 2013 by then-Mayor Valerio Zoggia. The goal was to elevate Jesolo's status to be on par with other major European cities featuring iconic Ferris wheels. The project, an investment of 6 to 7 million euros, was championed by Tourism Councillor Daniela Donadello and developed by 'The Wheel' company in collaboration with Jesolo Turismo.

A Feat of Engineering and Logistics

The installation of the 380-ton wheel was a significant logistical feat. The structure was transported to Jesolo in 25 large containers. Its assembly in Piazza Brescia required a coordinated ten-day effort involving three substantial cranes weighing 80, 120, and 220 tons. The Ruota Panoramica holds the distinction of being the first panoramic wheel installed on the Alto Adriatico coastline.

A Focal Point of Tourism

Since its opening around April 2014, the wheel has become a prominent tourist attraction and a symbol of the summer season. Its central location makes it easily accessible and a focal point for evening entertainment. The attraction is popular with both tourists and locals, who particularly enjoy the stunning visuals and romantic atmosphere at sunset. Operating hours typically run from late afternoon into the night, with extended hours on weekends during the tourist season.
