Free and Cheap Coworking Spaces in Lisbon for Laptop Work
Last updated: August 2026
Intro
Lisbon is easy to work from until you need a dependable seat, a socket and a trusted price. Old guides recycle spaces that have closed or changed their rules. This guide checks libraries, day passes, coworking spaces and cafés on 30 August 2026.
Quick overview
Venues covered: 19 named places in the verified shortlist.
Day pass range: €10 including VAT at Heden Alvalade to €25 plus VAT at Second Home, Impact Hub and Resvés.
Best free option: Santander Work Café Amoreiras, or Biblioteca de Marvila for quiet work.
Best paid option: Heden Alvalade, the lowest operator price, four minutes from the metro.
Typical Wi-Fi speed: Not published as a defensible Lisbon average. Operators say “super-fast” or “high-speed fibre”, but give no Mbps guarantee.
The surprise: Deskpass showed Heden around €24 per day, while its own pages showed €10 or €14 including VAT.
If you take an afternoon off, Lisbon also runs as a self-guided walking tour inside the Ciceru app, with a story and a quiz question at each stop, and a free 500 MB global eSIM so you are online the moment you land.

Santander Work Café Amoreiras is the clearest non-library option. Address: Avenida Engenheiro Duarte Pacheco area, Amoreiras, Lisbon. Cafés that actually welcome laptops
The dependable café list is short. Current guidance reports lunch restrictions and designated work tables. A venue needs recent policy evidence.
Sense of Coffee & Wine, Baixa
Address: Rua dos Fanqueiros 267, 1100-232 Lisboa. Price: no laptop minimum stated, checked 30 August 2026. Open daily from 09:00 to 16:00. The café welcomes laptops at dedicated tables and provides free Wi-Fi. This policy is reinforced by a table sticker and reviews dated 27 July to 2 August 2026. Sockets are not stated. Two hours is realistic.
Good Company Books café
Address: Avenida Visconde de Valmor 2, 1000-291 Lisboa. Price: no laptop minimum or cover published, checked 30 August 2026. Open Tuesday to Friday, 09:00 to 21:00, and Saturday, 10:00 to 21:00. The operator describes it as a place to read, meet or work. A laptop-friendly review updated 4 August 2026 supports that policy. Several sockets are reported downstairs, but the count is not published. Two hours is realistic outside peaks.
Marquise da Mobler, Copenhagen Coffee Lab as a generic chain and Heim Café in Santos are excluded. Marquise has restricted periods; Coffee Lab varies by branch; Heim lacked a current policy and second recent signal.

Which neighbourhood to base yourself in
Cais do Sodré suits a week of long days and easy transport. Second Home has 08:00 to 22:00 weekday access at Mercado da Ribeira, near metro, train, tram, bus and ferry links. Its €25 plus VAT rate adds up, and no air conditioning matters in August.
Príncipe Real suits café sessions and accommodation-based work more than cheap day passes. The hilltop position means a substantial climb from Baixa or Chiado, so it is better for a nearby week base.
Alcântara and LX Factory suit a routine mixing Biblioteca de Alcântara, light café work and creative spaces. Without a direct metro stop, staying there is easier than commuting with a heavy laptop.
Marvila and Beato suit longer focus blocks east of the centre. Biblioteca de Marvila is the free fallback. Local coffee pricing is unconfirmed; rail and buses matter most.
Anjos is a practical base with green metro access and LACS Anjos in marketplace inventory. It avoids the climb to Graça and Penha de França.
Baixa and Rossio are easiest for one-day work. Heden Rossio, Impact Hub Baixa and Sense of Coffee are near transport, although streets rise toward Chiado, Bairro Alto and Castelo.

Practicalities: Wi-Fi, plugs, hours, cover charges, summer heat
Do not publish a citywide Wi-Fi speed. Operators advertise fast connections without a number, and older café tests are snapshots. Second Home is described as adequate rather than exceptional. Ask for a current test for calls or large uploads.
Sockets are a seat-level issue. Good Company Books has several downstairs, but many venues do not state a count. Arrive charged and check with staff.
There is no verified universal laptop cover charge. Portuguese restaurant couvert is not a laptop fee. Some cafés use a venue-specific minimum, including a reported €10 minimum at one work café, while others expect continued ordering. One coffee may not buy an afternoon.
August needs its own plan. Portugal’s August 2025 was unusually hot, and Second Home has no air conditioning in the current independent assessment. Heden Rossio is reported to have air conditioning, but that does not prove every branch. Library summer hours differ from winter hours. 15 August is a national holiday. Second Home lists 09:00 to 18:00 on bank holidays; Resvés excludes national holidays.
Serious hills are Príncipe Real, Penha de França and Costa do Castelo. Café da Garagem is a poor choice if the approach is difficult. Heden Alvalade, Heden Rossio, Sense of Coffee and Second Home have less arrival friction.

For a cheap workday, start with Heden Alvalade or Santander Work Café Amoreiras. For free work, check summer hours for Marvila, Galveias or Alcântara. For café work, choose a designated table.
