About this walk

Walk the centre of Oxford with a self-guided audio tour that tells the long feud between the town and the university. From the Turf Tavern hidden down its alley and the Bridge of Sighs over New College Lane to the Sheldonian Theatre, Carfax Tower, the Radcliffe Camera and the Bodleian Library, ten stops reveal how scholars and citizens shaped the city, and why they so often fought over it. At every stop a short quiz tests what you have just heard, so you notice the details most visitors walk straight past: a cross set into the road on Broad Street, the musket scars on a church porch, a Saxon tower that once guarded the north gate. The route is about 1 km and takes about an hour at an easy pace, longer if you linger. You can start whenever you like, pause for coffee in the Covered Market and pick up where you left off. The walk itself is free and stays outside: colleges, the Bodleian and some church interiors charge their own entry fees, so check opening times if you want to go in. Download the tour before you set off; it works offline, and every booking includes a free eSIM so you stay connected throughout your visit.

  • A great way to discover the hidden gems in Sorrento. It provides history, cultural context and a flavour of the place. We would have missed so much had we wandered round without this valuable guide. Thank you for the research and information.
