The Cheapest Coworking Spaces in Athens
Last updated: October 2026
Intro
Athens is turning into a winter base for remote workers. Greek paper To Vima reported in May 2026 that international professionals now make up 30 to 40 per cent of coworking members in the city, and operators are opening new sites to match. Many "free coworking Athens" lists still send you to the Gennadius Library, which is not a drop-in: its main reading room is for registered researchers. Here is what works for a visitor, checked in October 2026.
Ciceru also has a self-guided Athens walk in the Ciceru app, with a story and a quiz question at each stop and a free 500 MB global eSIM.
⚡ Quick answer
- Best free option: the National Library of Greece at the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center, free public access, with long reading-room hours reported (confirm on nlg.gr)
- Cheapest day pass: Impact Hub Athens, €18 a day, or €13 for up to 4 hours
- Cheapest by the hour on a longer stay: Impact Hub's 40-hour monthly plan at €70, about €1.75 an hour
- Main warning: the Gennadius Library needs a library card and is for researchers, not casual laptop work
- VAT note: Greek VAT is 24%; ViOS lists its price without it, Impact Hub does not say, so ask
🆓 Free places to work
National Library of Greece (SNFCC)
- 📍 Leoforos Syngrou 364, Kallithea, in the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center
- 🕐 Greek press reports reading rooms and public computers open daily, including holidays, 06:00 to 24:00, and the staffed general collection Monday to Friday 09:00 to 20:00 and Saturday 09:00 to 14:00. One other listing shows shorter hours and no Sunday opening, so confirm before you travel
- 🆓 The foundation said at the 2018 opening that researchers, students and the general public get free access
- 🪪 Registration is required for full services such as borrowing. Whether a visitor can sit down without it is the one thing to check before you go
The catch is distance: it sits south of the centre, so allow travel time. Hours here come from press and tourism pages, not the library's own site, which could not be read, so confirm on nlg.gr. Wifi is not confirmed either.
Skip the Gennadius Library for laptop work. Its own access policy says the Main Reading Room is reserved for registered researchers, first-time readers must apply for a library card, and undergraduates need a letter from a supervisor. Its July and August 2026 hours were Monday to Thursday 09:00 to 16:30 and Friday 09:00 to 15:00, so check the autumn hours.

☕ Laptop-friendly cafés
Cafés in Koukaki, Exarchia, Kolonaki and Pangrati all get used as offices, but none of their own websites could be checked. The travel blog Two Tickets Anywhere (updated June 2026) names three:
- Dope Roasting Co.: fast wifi, benches, a two-floor layout
- Kinono: two floors, sockets on the upper one
- KoukArt: opens at 07:00, reliable wifi, plenty of charging points
Buy a coffee an hour, ask about laptop rules at busy times, and expect peak lunch seats to be tight.
📶 Wifi, plugs and noise
- 📶 Wifi: Impact Hub advertises fibre at 50 Mbps. The National Library publishes no speed, so do not plan a heavy upload there.
- 🔌 Plugs: none of these venues publish socket counts, so charge up before you go and ask on arrival.
- 📞 Calls: Impact Hub has a soundproofed phone booth. Library reading rooms are for silent work, and a café is the fallback.
- 🛂 Staying longer: Greece's digital nomad visa asks non-EU applicants for a net income of at least €3,500 a month, according to workfromgreece.gr. Check the official site for where to apply.
🚶 A lunch-break walk
Working from Impact Hub near Psyri? A walk down to Monastiraki, then along Ermou to Syntagma, is about 2 km, roughly 25 minutes at an easy pace. From ViOS Downtown, Syntagma is roughly 15 minutes. These are estimates, so check on your phone.
Syntagma is also where the Unknown Soldier memorial and the changing of the guard stand, one of six stops on Ciceru's Athens walk. With a free afternoon, the self-guided walk in the Ciceru app runs about 2 hours and 4 km, from Hadrian's Arch, for €7 with a free 500 MB global eSIM.
