Porto has a big remote-work scene, but several places the guides still recommend are not available. The main city library at São Lázaro has been closed since April 2024, with works due to run to around 2029. The Santander Work Café on Avenida dos Aliados is temporarily closed after a building fire. And the university's e-learning cafés are only for students and staff. Here is what is open for a visitor with a laptop, checked on 23 September 2026.

It opened on 2 April 2001, when Porto was European Capital of Culture, and it stands in the gardens above the Douro. The 21:00 closing makes it the best free evening option in the city.
Santander Work Café, Júlio Dinis

⚠️ The Aliados Work Café (Avenida dos Aliados 37) is temporarily closed after a fire in the building. Its team works from the branch at Rua de Sá da Bandeira 805, open 08:30 to 15:00.
Closed or restricted, despite what some guides say
- 🚧 Biblioteca Pública Municipal do Porto (São Lázaro): closed since 1 April 2024. The €31 million works began in May 2026 and are due to finish around 2029.
- 🎓 U.Porto e-learning cafés (Asprela and Botânico): restricted to current and former members of the university.

Most coworkings here sell monthly plans and quote day passes on request. Guides still quote 2023 prices for Selina Navis and Porto i/o. The Selina brand has since been replaced, and we could not confirm Porto i/o's current status. Email the space the day before and ask for the price including VAT, which is 23%.

- Café Vitória (Rua de José Falcão): several rooms, but avoid the smoking room for calls
